DEAN'S MESSAGE

The days and weeks in pharmacy school seem to pass so slowly ... A
cycle of lecture and labs, rotations and assignments. Will examinations
never end? Will summer never come? And then it is over. The ceremony of
honors convocation, the pageantry of commencement, and all the
celebratory gatherings and parties and dinners are over in a flash. All too
soon we realize that the time spent in school was brief indeed.

Members of the class of 1993 are embarking on careers that will embrace
the first third of the twenty-first century. Pharmacy will continue to have
much to offer to health care and to patients who need drug therapy.
Pharmacy will have much to offer to you — the realization that you
contribute directly, every day — to the health and perhaps the very lives of
those you treat.

But changes will also occur. Pharmacy in the year 2025 promises to be
much different from pharmacy in 1993. And we cannot predict with
certainty what those differences will be. Therefore, it is up to each in-
dividual to trudge the path of life-long learning in order to be ready for 2025
when it arrives.

But it is comforting to know that in 2025 we will have this copy of the
Terra Mariae, assembled with so much care by this year's staff, that we can
use to rekindle the memories of the School of Pharmacy, way back in the
olden days of 1993!

David A. Knapp, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Pharmacy

ALEXION — I can't believe it's finally over!
Does this mean I have to get a job? Rx school
good times: Lab family, Lilly trip, picnics-free
beer, $100 check-for basically doing nothing,
above all-the friends I've made here-U know
who U are!! Rx school bad times: too many to
list-just kidding it wasn't that bad. Good luck
everybody in the "real world". Special thanks
to Mom and Dad-without you none of this
would be possible!!!

HECTOR T. AYU — B.Sc. (Hon) Microbi-
ology, M.B.A. — The race is not always to the
swift nor the battle to the strong but time and
chance happeneth to them all. As you leave to
serve your life's mission, I hope you've enjoyed
my jokes, unlimited questions and my lavished
smiles. And whether we shall see again I know
not. If we do meet again we shall smile. If not,
then this parting was well made. Please depart
not from your God and above all use your
knowledge to make this world a better place for
future generations. You'll all be on my mind.
Cheers. 1993

DANA HOPE FRIEDMAN — Well, after 3
long years it is finally over! As much as I can't
wait, I will surely miss it here — not the school,
just the people. The worst part is that I must
grow up and face the real world. AARRGH. I
have had many wonderful memories. I would
have to say that the 2 best things I got out of
school were a truly amazing group of friends
and the most understanding, considerate, and
wonderful man. Good luck to all of you, and I
am looking forward to our annual vacations
together. Love, Bubie.

DANIELLE GALLINA

NINA GANDHI — I'm glad we all have final-
ly graduated. It was pure HELL! But we did
have some fun times. I've made some real good
friends & hope to see them after May of 1993.
Good luck everyone & hope to see you soon.

Memorable things about Rx school-Dana,
Mike, Dave, Tina, Tim, Liz, Andy, Boat Bash,
Luigi Petti, Lilly, Coxsackie, "Does anybody
have an old exam?", "Who has a copy card?",
Frown, studying for finals as a group-what a
joke! But the best thing about Rx school was
meeting & falling in love with my best friend &
honey-Pete Ridolfi. I never thought staying up
all nite studying could be fun but you made it
fun honey-you made Rx school great. Don't
forget to fax me Johnny. Ex squeeze me?

FOR THE ELDERLY

j The Center for the Study of Pharmacy and Therapeutics for the Elderly serves as the focal point of all
geriatric education, service, and research activities within the school. It provides continuing education
programs on both state and national levels. Funding from federal and private sources allows the center to
encourage and support relevant research by faculty and graduate students from all school departments.
The center is administratively responsible for the Elder-Health Program, the Parke-Davis Center for the
Education of Elderly and the Maryland Caregiver Program.

The Parke-Davis Center for the Education of Elderly develops educational materials for use by the Elder
